Service Learning

Since ³ûÖÊÓƵ was established in 1886, Ut Prosim, that I may serve has been the School’s motto and guiding philosophy. Service Learning is embedded in the curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 12. We believe that a focus on service enables our girls to become more generous, compassionate, outward-focused individuals, who will go on to make a difference in their communities.

Service Learning is always age-appropriate, and is led by the Director of Community and Service Learning. In the Junior School, the focus is on fostering an awareness of the needs of others at home and at school, and learning about environmental issues. In Middle School, Upper School and Senior College, Service Learning projects spring from the curriculum, include various House-based and community-based fundraising activities and involvement in Service Learning groups – the Music Therapy Group or Gender Equity Group, for example.

Year 9 girls have the opportunity to go on Service Learning trips to remote areas of Australia or to developing countries overseas, and in Year 10, students complete community service outside of school hours for the Service Learning in the Community (SLIC) program.
